Afterthought
Of all the many things I could study in this world... why did I choose to do Medicine?
I used to be able to say with unwavering confidence that it is my calling. Now I'm not so sure.
I hope I'm just taking a break from Medicine, and only a break. I guess everybody has one of these days... right?

Me again... the crazy middle-aged lady from St Louis, MO. I don't know if you are in London again or not, but I have a friend there that I think you should meet. She has just finished medical school here in St Louis and is going to be at Oxford for the fall term as a Rhodes scholar studying the economics of healthcare delivery in the third world. She spent the summer on a trip to Rwanda, the Congo and Burundi with the NY times (http://www.nytimes.com/marketing/winatrip/) ... and then working for the Brookings institute in Washington, DC.
There has never been a more inspired and inspiring individual as my friend, Leana. I would really like for you to meet her. I think it might help you in your own self-searching.
You should be able to reach me through my website if you would like.
